Reviving a Naza M TBS Discovery

I am incredibly thrilled to share that I have made the decision to purchase the legendary TBS Discovery drone! TBS = Team Black Sheep! This drone may be considered “old school” by some, but let me tell you, it is still one of the best quadcopters out there even to this day. The TBS Discovery is renowned for its durability, reliability, and exceptional flight performance. With its sleek design and advanced features, this drone is an absolute dream come true for any aerial photography enthusiast. So, without a second thought, I am ready to embark on an exciting journey with my TBS Discovery drone, capturing breathtaking shots from above and exploring the skies like never before.

TBS Problems From The Start

Not long after receiving the quadcopter, I quickly established that I had forgotten all I needed to know about them. But I wasn’t going to let that stop me from enjoying my new toy! With an excited determination, I embarked on a mission of detection work. I scoured through the instruction manual, watched countless YouTube tutorials, and joined online forums dedicated to quadcopters. The more I learned, the more excited I became. It was like unlocking a whole new world of possibilities. With each new piece of information I gathered, my confidence grew, and soon enough, I was ready to take my quadcopter to new heights.

Naza M Version 1 in a TBS Discovery

I couldn’t contain my excitement when I got my hands on the Naza-M version 1 quadcopter! The only problem was, my experience was with Ardupilot and this quadcopter was secondhand and already built. But hey, I love a challenge! As I started exploring the features of the Naza-M, I realised it was quite different from what I was used to. However, I embraced the opportunity to learn something new and began diving into the world of Naza-M. It was a thrilling experience, figuring out the controls and understanding the unique capabilities of this quadcopter. With every obstacle I encountered, I felt a surge of excitement to overcome it and master the Naza-M.

Windows 10 driver issues with Naza

One of the main problems I encountered was that when the Naza M was released, it was specifically designed to work with Windows 7. However, I am currently using Windows 10, and Windows 7 is practically dead now. This posed quite a dilemma for me as I needed to find a way to make the Naza M compatible with my operating system. Thankfully, after some research and trial and error, I discovered that the issue was related to a driver signature problem.

Determined to make it work, I turned to YouTube for help and stumbled upon a tutorial that seemed promising. With excitement in my heart, I followed the step-by-step instructions provided in the video, hoping that this would be the solution to my problem. And guess what? It worked! The tutorial guided me through the process of resolving the driver signature issue and enabled me to successfully use the Naza M on my Windows 10 system.

I cannot express how thrilled I am to have overcome this obstacle. Now, I can continue using the Naza M without any compatibility issues on my upgraded operating system. It just goes to show the power of online resources and the determination to find solutions. I am grateful for the tutorial that helped me navigate this problem and excited to explore all the possibilities that the Naza M has to offer on Windows 10!

Adding The Additions to the TBS Discovery

Finally, the road ahead seemed to smooth out as I installed the driver and connected the Naza M to my computer. I could feel the excitement building up within me as the TBS Discovery came back to life. I knew that this was going to be an incredible journey with my beloved drone. Adding the FrSky X8R receiver, which I personally consider to be one of the best, only added to my enthusiasm. And to top it off, I had my trusty Turnigy 9XR readily available. The X8R was seamlessly connected via the SBUS port, ensuring a clean and efficient installation. The thought of taking my TBS Discovery to new heights with these amazing components had me buzzing with anticipation. With everything in place, I could hardly wait to embark on my next adventure and witness the incredible capabilities of this upgraded setup. The road may have been bumpy at times, but now it was time to soar high and explore the possibilities that awaited me.

Time to Calibrate the TBS Discovery.

I was so excited to finally start my calibration process for my Tbs Discovery drone. First, I decided to calibrate my Turnigy 9XR remote control, which I found to be a simple process thanks to helpful tutorials on YouTube. It’s amazing how easily accessible information is nowadays! 

Next up was calibrating the Naza M flight controller using the Naza M Assist software. I was initially a bit nervous about this step, but as it turns out, it was actually quite intuitive. The software had built-in online documentation that guided me through the process seamlessly. I couldn’t believe how user-friendly and helpful it was.

With the calibration of the Naza M completed, it was time to ensure that the motors were spinning in the correct rotation. To my relief, they were! This was such a crucial step to get right, and I was thrilled that everything seemed to be working perfectly.

Lastly, I needed to set up the three-point switch for failsafe GPS and Atti mode. Once again, YouTube came to my rescue with an informative video that made the process a breeze. I followed along and set up the switch exactly as needed.

Overall, the calibration process was a success, and I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Now that everything is calibrated and ready to go, I can’t wait to take my Tbs Discovery out for its first flight. It’s going to be an incredible experience!

First Flight of the TBS Drone

I couldn’t contain my excitement as I finally gathered the courage to take my TBS Discovery quadcopter for its first flight. I had no idea what to expect, and the thought of crashing seemed more than likely. But I knew deep down that it had to be done. With trembling hands, I loaded the battery and switched on the controller, feeling a rush of adrenaline coursing through my veins. Carefully, I connected the battery to the TBS Discovery, knowing that this moment was the culmination of weeks of anticipation and preparation.

Crunch time had arrived. With bated breath, I started the motors and felt the hum of power resonating through the air. As I increased the throttle at a gentle pace, my heart raced with anticipation. And then, like magic, it happened – my TBS Discovery lifted off the ground. It was a moment of sheer exhilaration, knowing that I had successfully managed to get this incredible machine airborne.

However, it quickly became apparent that my drone was tail heavy. But with a few adjustments here and there, I could see the potential for greatness. This TBS Discovery quadcopter was going to be a fantastic flyer once I fine-tuned its balance and performance. The excitement bubbled within me as I imagined all the incredible flights and breathtaking aerial shots that were yet to come.

At that moment, I realised that this first flight was just the beginning of an incredible journey with my TBS Discovery quadcopter. There was so much more to explore, so many more adventures waiting to unfold. With each flight, I would gain more confidence and skill, pushing the limits of what this amazing machine could do. The possibilities were endless, and I couldn’t wait to embark on this thrilling quadcopter journey.

What’s to come for the TBS Discovery

I am beyond thrilled about the future of my TBS Discovery! I have big plans to take this drone to the next level with some amazing upgrades. First on my list is designing a custom battery compartment. This will not only improve the overall look of the drone, but also make it more efficient and convenient for me to swap out batteries during flights. No more hassle of fumbling with loose batteries!

Next, I want to create a sturdy aerial support for the x8r antennas. This will ensure that the antennas stay in place and provide a strong signal for my drone throughout its flights. With this upgrade, I can explore new heights and capture breathtaking footage without worrying about losing connection.

But what’s a drone without some epic footage? That’s why I am super excited to work on a gimbal mount for my TBS Discovery. This will allow me to attach a camera and record my daring flying adventures. From exhilarating manoeuvres to, let’s be honest, some crash scenes, I’ll be able to capture it all and relive those heart-pounding moments.

And that’s not all! I’m considering implementing a blackpill 32bit processor as a flight controller upgrade for my TBS Quad. This advanced technology will enhance the drone’s performance, providing smoother flights and more precise controls. I can’t wait to experience the improved stability and responsiveness this upgrade will bring.

With these incredible upgrades, my TBS Discovery is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Naza M, watch out! This drone is about to reach new heights and capture the most thrilling moments in style. Get ready for some epic adventures in the sky!
